Hi, my name is Marlin, and I am 26 years old with 13 years of experience in the hair industry. Originally, I am from Cape Town in South Africa. My passion started when I was very young, and I began to experiment by cutting the hair of my family and friends. My skills came very naturally to me as I could work out the structure and vision of what I was trying to create very easily. At the age of 16 (whilst in school studying), I decided I wanted to make a career of it, so I started sweeping hair in a barbershop in Cape Town. At age 19, I finished school and I decided to take a full-time position with the most well-known barbering brand in South Africa. I stayed with them for 1 year and decided I wanted to open a business. This led me to take part in various meetings with investors who agreed to open my first barbershop with me. Within 3 years we expanded to 3 outlets, but we had different priorities and visions at that time, so I left the company to concentrate on my self-development. At the age of 24 I was extremely grateful to receive a job offer from Chaps (this was a huge factor in my life as I had never travelled out of South Africa). I was ready to accept the challenge. Since making this decision I have developed a lot of new skills and learnt how to adapt to different people from different cultures. It’s so fascinating to see the differences in people’s everyday lives and to learn from it. I enjoy working with different people from different backgrounds as it exposes me to new experiences and knowledge everyday. I’m looking forward to my future with Chaps & Co, and to progressing my personal journey.
