My name is Kenny, I am 37 years old and I have been in the hair industry for 18 years. I’m originally from the Philippines. After leaving high school I always had a passion for art as I used to love drawing and paintings. When I came across the hair industry it suited my passion, so I started to look for jobs and went straight into a hairdressing and barbering salon in my local area. It’s here where I mastered scissor work. Back in those days I couldn’t afford to buy a clipper. My grandmother purchased a small pig and told me if I grew the pig to a size where it could be sold, I could then purchase my first clippers. I’m very grateful for this test as it made my scissor work very strong. However, within 3 months I sold the pig and purchased my first clipper. When I finally got it, I was so proud. I remember the first haircut I did and my hands were shaking, although very soon after I developed a passion stronger than ever and a great level of competence. I continued to develop my skills in multiple salons where I made that much of an impression, one of my past employers gave me a deposit for a motorcycle. When he passed away, he left me some money in the bank which I’ll always be grateful for. This helped me to continue my journey and elevate my experience. I decided to relocate to Oman between 2012–2016. I wanted to progress further with my career. I worked in various locations but still wasn’t content, so in 2017 I applied for a position in Chaps & Co. I’m very proud to say that I was accepted. I work every day with a team that teach and inspire me. I love the saying that “Michael Jordan is a legend, but even he had a coach.” So, this is very important for me. Before Chaps, I had never worked for a company that treated me in such a positive way. I have learnt all aspects of customer service and how to conduct a complete client service.
