Happy new year to all the Chaps around the world! We hope you had a great ending to 2021, and that 2022 brings you health, wealth and blessings.

For many around the globe, the new year brings with it personal changes. Making commitments to self-improvement has been tradition for years. As a time of reflection on the year that has just passed, new year resolutions are seen as a way to refine your lifestyle going forward.

You might be thinking of a new look for 2022, to really complete the ‘new year, new you’ sentiments. If that’s the case, but you don’t know where to start, we’ve put together this handy guide to help pick the right cut for your face.

How to Choose a New Look

The shape of your head and face is what will determine whether you suit a style or not. The trick is not to make your head look too round, or too long. Let’s look at each shaped head, and some of the complimentary styles.

Oval

An oval face has no angles or corners. This shaped head is the most versatile and will suit almost any hair style. It’s easier, here, to tell you what you should avoid and that is fringes. By covering your forehead you’ll make your head look rounder, and nobody wants that.

Round

What is wrong with a rounder head? I hear you cry! Nothing, we were being facetious.

With a round head, short sides and a little extra on top will help add height and volume. High fades, side parts, textured comb overs, perhaps a beard to help give the jawline a little more definition. There aren’t too many to avoid with a round head but keeping it short round the sides we think is a must.

Square

Square heads are similar proportions to the round heads. The difference being a defined jaw. Fairly even in length and width, undercuts, longer styles, messy crops and buzzcuts all suit the square head. A bit of light stubble on the chin can help soften the jawline, if that’s what you think is needed.

Diamond

Diamond heads are generally long and narrow, with a defined and chiselled chin. Layered, high volume looks are where it is at! Long slick backs, faux hawks, textured crops and brush ups all get the green light. Like the square head, if you’d like to take the edge of your jawline a little light stubble or beard can work wonders.

Oblong

With the longer face, short sides, buzz cuts and other shorter trims can make your face seem longer. Swept up crew cuts, spiked or short brush ups will all look great, but avoid high fades where possible. With the other end of your face, a beard again risks making your face longer.
